The Federal Government has requested the International Police (INTERPOL) to place three Nigerians: Adamu Abubakar, Imam Abubakar, and Odoh Eric Ocheme. on watch list for allegedly conniving with former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele to forge Buhari’s signature to steal $6.2million from the CBN.
The request to INTERPOL was made by the Office of the Special Investigator appointed by President Bola Tinubu to investigate the CBN, related entities and other key government business entities.
The three suspects were accused of forging the signature of ex-President Mohammadu Buhari and documents purportedly written by the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, to induce the payment of $6.2m from CBN.
The forged documents include:
1. The Presidency, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Identity Card in the name of Jibril Abubakar.
2. Letter dated January 23, 2023 purportedly written by Muhammad Buhari to Mr. Boss Mustapha.
3. Letter dated January 26, 2023 purportedly written by Boss Mustapha to Mr. Godwin Emefiele.
4. Central Bank of Nigeria Internal Memo dated January 31, 2023 purportedly written by the Director, Banking Services Department to the Governor.
5. CBN Internal Memo dated February 7, 2023 purportedly written by the Director, Banking Services Department to the Branch Controller, Abuja, Branch, with the intent that the CBN, Abuja branch may in the believe that the documents are genuine be induced to pay the sum of six million, two hundred and thirty thousand United States Dollars ($6,230,000.00)
