Unity Bank collaboration with SkillPaddy to train 1,000 female software engineers in its “Count Her In” tech Programme.
This is just as the bank as part of its activities to celebrate the International Women’s Day(IWD) 2024, Unity Bank has concluded arrangements to sponsor 40 young girls for the special training programme.
This year’s theme, #InspireInclusion, highlights the importance of creating inclusive environments where everyone feels valued and respected.
The initiative, the bank said, is aimed at empowering women in software engineering and bridge talent supply gaps in the tech industry.
The goal of the initiative the bank said is to increase women’s participation in the tech industry, where they currently make up only 33 per cent of the workforce globally.
The beneficiaries, Unity Bank explained will be trained in software development, mentorship, and resources to help them succeed in their careers.
Speaking, the Unity Bank’s Managing Director/CEO, Tomi Somefun, emphasised the importance of empowering young women and driving inclusion, equality, and diversity in industries.
She pointed out that the partnership with SkillPaddy is in line with the bank’s commitment to fostering economic empowerment and gender equality.
She added that investing in the training of female software engineers, Unity Bank aims to promote innovation and diversity in the tech industry.
Besides this initiative, the has also partnered with AltSchool Africa to sponsor female students in acquiring specialist software development skills.
The bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) efforts align with the goal of accelerating gender equality and creating inclusive environments for all individuals.
IWD is a global celebration of women’s achievements and a call to action for gender equality.
International Women’s Day is a holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women’s rights movement.
It gives attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.
