The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)  has stated that it will continue to introduce consumer-focused  and friendly initiatives to protect their rights.

This is just as the Commission said that it is also committed to upholding consumer rights considering the crucial role they play in making the industry a success.

The Deputy Director of the Consumers Affairs Bureau, Clem Omofe,  said this at a forum held to mark World Consumers Rights Day 2024 in Abuja.

He pointed out that consumers play a very crucial role in moving the telecommunications sector forward.

“At NCC, Telecom consumers are treated like royalty because they are the driving force behind our operations.

“The Commission acknowledges the significant role consumers play in the telecommunications ecosystem and will continue to introduce consumer-focused initiatives to protect their rights,” Omofe assured.

Consumer education, he  stressed is a very  important tool in promoting consumer rights, assuring that the Commission will engage with consumers through various outreach programmes such as: Telecom Consumer Parliament,

Telecom Consumer Conversations, Market Conversation, Village Square Dialogue, Campus Conversation, NYSC Camp Sensitisation, and Town Hall on Radio.

NCC, Omofe said, has published the Telecom Consumer Handbook, which has been transcribed into Braille for visually impaired individuals.

He added that the Commission is in the final stages of implementing an Automated Consumer Complaints Management system to enhance complaint resolution with service providers.

Consumers, he said, will remain priority for the Commission as they are essential to the telecommunications industry’s existence.
