The camp of the Rivers State Governor , Siminalayi Fubara, has continued to swell , as a member of the House of Representatives from Rivers State, Boniface Emerengwa, has declared support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, thereby dumping his long-standing political alliance with former Governor Nyesom Wike.

Emerengwa, who represents Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency, made the declaration during a visit to Governor Fubara in Port Harcourt on Monday evening.

According to a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, the Federal lawmaker condemned the struggle by some politicians to be recognised as leaders of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP), and the political leaders of the state instead of the governor even when the party and the nation’s constitution explicitly bestowed such roles on elected governors.

Fubara, while accepting the pledge of loyalty from the lawmaker, said his government will never be distracted from delivering on its promises to Rivers people.

This latest development brings the number of House of Representatives members openly supporting Governor Fubara to five out of the 13 members in the green chambers from the state.

Other lawmakers in the House of Representatives who  have identified with Fubara  includes : Awaji-Inombek Abiante (PDP-Andoni/Opobo-Nkoro), Boma Goodhead (PDP-Asari Toru/Akuku Toru), Anderson Allison (APC-Okrika/Ogu/Bolo) and Umezuruike (Labour Party-Port Harcourt Constituency 1).

Recall that Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu had brokered a truce between Fubara and his predecessor Wike, who is also the Minister of FCT.

Despite that truce, some elders in Rivers and important personalities outside the state believed it was tilted to favour Wike.

However, political analysts have described Wike’s conduct since the truce was brokered as unbecoming, advising him to allow the governor to be his own man.
