Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and journalists yesterday besieged the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja, demanding the release of a detained journalist with the Foundation for Investigative Journalism, Daniel Ojukwu, held by Police for over one week.

Those who stormed the Police headquarters include a legal practitioner, Deji Adeyanju, a Pro-democracy activist and Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress(AAC) in the 2023 general elections, Omoyele Sowore; amongst others notable journalists and personalities.

The protesting CSOs and journalists were seen in a now-viral video on X.com carrying  banners with various inscriptions such as. ‘Free Daniel Ojukwu,’ ‘No to a police state,’ Journalism is not a crime,’ and ‘Stop the impunity.’

Recall that Ojukwu was moved to the National Cybercrime Centre, in Abuja, on Sunday by the Intelligence Response Team(IRT) of the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun.

Ojukwu went missing on Wednesday, May 1,2024 with his phone numbers switched off and his whereabouts unknown to family, friends and colleagues.

The situation brought about suspicion in some quarters that he may have been kidnapped .
