As part of efforts to ensure successful Hajj operations in 2024, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has pledged unwavering support to   the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria(FAAN) for seamless operations at Mallam Aminu Kano Airport(MAKA), Kano .

This is just as he also paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf and undertook a facility tour  of the airport, where he made known his intention to collaborate with the Kano State Government to ensure seamless and successful Hajj operations.

A statement signed by the  Director Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, FAAN,Mrs. Obiageli Orah informed that the Minister was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, and directors from both the Ministry and FAAN.

However during the visit, the Governor was unavoidably absent but was ably represented by the Deputy Governor of the state, Alhaji Aminu Gwarzo.

During the visit,Keyamo  together with the Deputy Governor, the Permanent Secretary, the MD/CE of FAAN, and directors from the industry, undertook a facility tour of the airport, which includes the Hajj and cargo terminals.

Keyamo outlined his plans to ensure all states are ready for Hajj operations this year.

He solicited the support of the Kano State Government for a dedicated power line to the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport to enhance the airport’s power supply and improve the cooling system—a pressing need given recent concerns.

Responding, the  Deputy Governor assured the Minister and his team that the State Government would work diligently to ensure that the request would be swiftly addressed.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson has stated that the 18 L Runway of the Murtala Muhammed Airport(MMA),Lagos, has been reopened after an NG Eagle XEjet aircraft with the registration number 5N-BZZ, en route from Abuja to Lagos, landed and skidded off the runway.

The serious incident led to the temporary closure of the runway to flight operations until the passengers  and the incident airplane were evacuated.

FAAN, Orah said  remains committed to providing seamless service to the Nigerian public.
