Barely 48 hours after the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) intercepted a container of arms and ammunition at Onne Port, Rivers State, the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adeniyi, today disclosed the interception of another huge seizure with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N270 million.at Murtala Muhammed Airport(MMA), Lagos.

According to Adeniyi, the latest seizure includes 55 unassembled pieces of Jojef Magnum semi-automatic shotguns and a cache of ammunition also imported from Turkey

The illegal arms which were discovered at the cargo section of the airport, were concealed within a shipment that included military hardware and accessories.

The Customs who were acting on credible intelligence conducted a thorough examination and found the illicit items concealed as shower faucets in packages.

According to the NCS , one suspect has been arrested and assisting  in the investigation of the matter .

The NCS boss outlined the recent successes in arms seizures nationwide, underscoring Customs’ proactive measures against illegal arms trafficking.

He said that the Nigerian collaborators in Turkey were identified in sourcing and exporting these illegal arms, utilising new methods to avoid detection.

Similarly, the Command at MMA also intercepted military and paramilitary equipment valued at N1.29 billion.

Items intercepted include: drones, ballistic vests, helmets, walkie talkies, and various military insignia.

These items were imported without the necessary end-user certificates, further complicating their legality under Nigerian law.

Adeniyi pointed out that all the seized items would be transferred to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons for further investigation and prosecution.

He assured the public of NCS commitment to securing Nigeria’s borders and preventing threats to national security and economic stability.
