…Says Achievement Milestone For Current Administration
ECK Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has commended President Bola Tinubu for signing into law the Southeast Development Commission bill, describing it as a milestone achievement of the current administration.
A statement signed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), ECK Foundation, Dr. Emeka Kalu, yesterday, said that the assent to the bill for the establishment of the commission by Tinubu would address the monumental challenges confronting the region.
Tinubu had on Tuesday in Abuja, gave assent to the Southeast Development Commission Bill, which was recently passed into law by the National Assembly.
Kalu explained that the assent further confirmed the readiness of Tinubu’s administration to expand the social and infrastructural development across the nation.
He added that this new commission would address the numerous neglects of the region.
“It is evident that this new commission would to a greater extent address the neglect the region has suffered during and after the civil war by factoring basic infrastructural facilities needed to advance the overall nation’s economy.
“We have through our various advocacy groups been appealing to the government on the need to create the commission, which has finally come to stay through the 10th National Assembly.
“With the ardent commitment of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, this life changing project saw the light of the day,” he said.
He further commended the Deputy Speaker for his effort all through the legislative processes until the bill received the assent of Mr. President.
Kalu explained that the Deputy Speaker had demonstrated the philosophy of good leadership in him as a man who felt the pains of his people.
He, however, canvassed for the appointment of experienced and corrupt-free individuals into the management position of the commission, arguing that this would ensure that the purpose for its creation was not compromised.
