The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) will participate in the 2024 Migration Dialogue organised by the Journalists International Forum for Migration (JIFORM).

The event, scheduled to be held on zoom) on Saturday, August 10, with participants drawn from several countries, is a capacity-building initiative for journalists and other professionals working on migration matters.

The Deputy Chief of Mission, IOM Nigeria, Paola Pace, will be the Guest Speaker for the programme and will deliver a lecture titled, “Migration Trends: Threats and Opportunities.” Similarly, NAPTIP will share tactics and experiences in the fight against human trafficking.

Speaking on the forthcoming event, President of JIFORM, Dr. Ajibola Abayomi, said, “We are pleased to have reputable speakers from the IOM and NAPTIP working with us to expand the frontiers of migration knowledge. This dialogue is beyond a mere meeting; it is an opportunity for us to widen our network with various professionals on the global stage and to further update participants on global best practices.

“Both the ills and prospects of migration are realities of life that must be confronted with the right attitude. This platform is open and free for all those who seek the right choices available in the migration space within the ambit of the law.”

JIFORM, registered in 2019, is a non-profit organisation comprising over 300 journalists and other volunteers across the continents covering migration matters, with headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria.

Between 2019 and now, among JIFORM  achievements are the  facilitation of the maiden African Migration Summit in partnership with the Nekotech Center of Excellence in Accra, Ghana, in 2021, the West African Media Migration Summit in Togo in 2021, and an Intercontinental Migration Summit in partnership with Medgar Evers College, City University, Brooklyn, New York, from November 2-4, 2022.

JIFORM also held its 3rd and 4th Migration Summits in Canada in 2022 and 2023, respectively, and organised the annual migration conference for Nigerian journalists in 2023.
