Members of the Patriots, a group of eminent Nigerians led by a former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, has inaugurated a 17 Member Advocacy Committee for the Actualisation of the Peoples Constitution with Prof . Anthony Kila as the Chairman of the group.
Kila , a renowned political economist and professor of Strategy and Development is also an international director of studies at the European Centre of Advanced and Professional Studies.
The Kila led Committee’s task will be to engage major stakeholders and members of the public across the country.
Inaugurating the committee, the former Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations and Leader of the Patriots, Chief Emeka Anyaoku , said the Committee will soon be reaching out to various sectors of the country starting from members of the National Assembly(NASS).
The inauguration event which was held in Lagos and online was attended by leaders of the patriots including General Ike Nwachukwu, Obong Victor Attah, Prof Anya O. Anya, Dr Bilikisu Magaro, Prof Remi Sonaiya, Elder Solomon Asemota, Ambassador Tokunbo Awolowo Dosumu and Senator Ben Obi.
Other members of the Kila Constitution Committee include: Senator Shehu Sanni, Dr. Bilikisu Magoro – Executive Secretary, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, Alhaji Shettima Yerima, Dr Otive Igbuzor, Mr Samson Itodo, Madu Bright O. Alwell, Ms Ann Kio Briggs, Mr. Fafa Dan Princewill,, Mr Zaka Bala,, Mr Kayode Samuel,,Barr Affiong L Affiong, and Mr Salvation Alibor.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman of the Constitution Committee, Prof Anthony Kila thanked the Chairman and leaders of the Patriots on behalf for his Committee for the honour and privilege of being part of the Committee.
Kila also announced that his committee will do all they can to inform, engage and get input from various members of the public.
Kila stated that the Committee will soon be interacting with members of NASS, traditional leaders, students as well as corporate Nigeria.
Recall that the group recently met with President Bola Tinubu and appealed to him to send an executive bill to NASS, proposing the convening of a National Constituent Asusembly with the mandate to produce a draft of the people’s democratic constitution.
