The Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria(FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku has
stated that training and re-training of journalists will not only bring out the best in them but will also help them understand and report the industry better.

She said this while presenting a keynote address at the just concluded CIAPS Airport Reporters Workshop: tilted, ‘Reporting Aviation and Airports’ held at the CIAPS Commonwealth Institute of Advanced & Professional Studies in Lagos.

Kuku, who was represented by the Director of Corporate Affairs and Consumer Protection,FAAN, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, said that the one-day workshop would not have come at a better time than now .

Kuku, noted that as journalists, “we may not be Managing Director or Director today but could be one in future”, adding that no knowledge is lost

She pointed out that the knowledge and training gained at the workshop would be of immense benefit in future.

She stated that for journalists to adequately report aviation and airports they must be Knowledgeable, adding that it is the knowledge aquired at trainings such as this that will help them in reporting accurately and from the point of knowledge.

According to her, “The workshop is an opportunity to give and develop your knowledge in Aviation and Airport Repotting.  It is when you are very knowledgeable in what you do that you can educate and impact Knowledge on others.”

” I am happy to be here . It is a common ground to foster common good and build relationships. The relationships we build today will see us through to the future,” she added.

Also speaking, the Director, at the CIAPS Commonwealth Institute of Advanced & Professional Studies,Prof. Anthony Kila told  participants at the workshop that the training would further broaden their knowledge on Reporting Aviation and Airports.

He advised  them to  ensure that there takeaways at the end of the workshop,adding that there is no better time to learn than now.

Kila also urged them not to be  tired of learning or attending training programmes, as there are several benefits attached to it 

According to him, ” The Best way not to learn something new is to believe I know it all.”

Earlier, Dr. Mike Omeri one of the facilitators, said that the  CIAPS Airport Reporters Workshop, titled, “Reporting Aviation and Airports,” is a specialised programme put together in conjunction with Timbuktu Media and sponsored by FAAN to equip journalists, media professionals, and communication specialists with the skills and insights needed to cover the dynamic aviation and airport.

Omeri  listed the aims of the workshop to you include :

* To acquire a deeper understanding of the aviation industry’s operational and economic dimensions.

* Learn investigative techniques to report aviation stories with accuracy and depth.

* Enhance ability to interpret aviation-related data and trends.

* Build connections with industry leaders and peers in the field of aviation reporting.

Topics that were treated by  resource persons at the workshop are :

* Airport Opetations & Management Understanding Stakeholders Responsibilities.

* Aviation Incident Reporting , Sensationalism and Sensibilities

* Legal Perspective In Aviation Reporting

* Media and Airport Partnerships

Close to 40 Aviation Journalists attended the one-day ,workshop.
