…As President Tinubu Approves Training Budget For Aviation Industry
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo has stated in hat he has mandated foreign airline operating into the country to ensure that their out bound flights take in- flight catering prepared by Nigeria inflight catering services.
The Minister made this known while giving his score card at a stakeholders Meeting in Lagos today.
He informed that he has directed the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority(NCAA) to compel to international airlines to patronise local catering organisations in Nigeria for their out bound flights.
Keyamo stated that already the international airlines are already complying with the directive .
He however warned that for those airlines that are not ready to comply, he would not sign their summer schedule .
“I have mandated that all international airlines that all their out bound flights must patronise our local catering services”.We hope to enforce it.
“For me to sign your Summer Schedule, you must show me the agreement you have signed with local catering organisations in Nigeria,” he added.
Speaking further, the Minister informed that the Maiduguri Airport will be upgraded to international airport.
He stated that before now no airport in the North East of Nigeria has been upgraded.
He also hinted that arrangements have been concluded to rehabilite all Hajj terminals in the country.
On manpower development, Keyamo said that Federal Government has spend huge amount of money building capacity in the sector.
Keyamo disclosed that he has secured monetary approval from President Bola Tinubu for this year’s training, adding that there will be training and re-training in the aviation sector to further grow the industry.
He pointed out that the President approved all he presented to him,urging the sector to thank the President for speedy the approvals .
Present at the stakeholders meeting include: the Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority(NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria(FAAN), Mrs Olubunmi Kuku and the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency(NAMA), Engr. Ahmed Farouk.
Others are representatives from Aviation Round Table(ART), Nigerian Aviation Handling Company(NAHCO), Skyway Aviation Handling Company(SAHCO), Nigeria Association of Travel Agencies(NANTA), Airline Operators of Nigeria(AON), in-flight catering organisations and Air Traffic Controllers.
