The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it has arrested a 43-year-old businesswoman, Jakpor Egware May, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport(MMIA), Lagos for being in possession of 190 parcels of tramadol and another parcel of skunk.
She was arrested while attempting to board a flight to Italy.
The agency also foiled attempts by drug trafficking organizations to smuggle illicit substances to various international destinations.
The NDLEA’s operatives have arrested several suspects and seized large quantities of drugs, including cocaine, tramadol, skunk, and others.
These arrests was disclosed by the NDLEA, Spokesman, Mr Femi Babafemi in a statement yesterday..
Similarly, a 60-year-old suspect, Yahaya Fatai Ayinla, was arrested at the export shed of the Lagos airport while attempting to ship a cargo containing 400 grams of skunk to New York, United States.
Babafemi informed that agency’s operatives also intercepted several shipments of drugs hidden in various items, including Vitamin C bottles, female cloths, prayer beads, and packs of board games.
The drugs, he said were destined for various countries, including Saudi Arabia, Poland, and the United Arab Emirates.
Babafemi said that in addition to the arrests and seizures, the agency’s operatives have also conducted raids and operations in various states, resulting in the recovery of large quantities of drugs and the arrest of several suspects.
Speaking on the seizures and arrests, the Chairman, NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the agency’s officers and men for their operational successes and praised their balanced approach to drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts.
He assured that, the agency’s efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse are ongoing, and it continues to work with other law enforcement agencies and stakeholders to disrupt the activities of drug traffickers and protect the country’s borders.
