…Accuses Minister Of Concentrating Only On.Passport,Visa, E-Gate
The Coalition for Ethical Standard Accountability and Good Governance (ESAGG) has called on the Federal Government to as a matter of necessity and urgency direct the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo to account for the inmates that have escaped from Suleja,Maiduguri,Warri, Lagos,Koton-Karfe jail breaks without trace among others since he became Minister.
The call is contained in a statement signed by the President of ESAGG, Comrade Emeka Nwachukwu and made available to Ontimenewsng.com today.
The group also accused the Minister of concentrating to much on passport, visa and E-Gate, units under the Nigeria Immigration Service(NIS) to the detriment of other agencies under his purview. .
ESAGG stated that a situation where the Minister informed the media that a Committee has been constituted to investigate the circumstances surrounding the Jailbreak is unacceptable.
The group added that this has succeeded in heightening insecurity through poor administration and insensitivity to the danger posed by incessant jailbreaks.
The escapees, the Coalition, said will add to the number of those creating insecurity in the country that are battled by the security forces, who are also battling with others such as banditry,terrorism, kidnappings,armed robbers and other heinous crimes, thereby overstretching the security workforce and manpower on ground.
Nigerians, the group pointed out are worried and that the Federal Government should take decisive action to punish erring appointees be it the Acting Controller General,the Controller in charge of facility and the Minister of Interior.
The Minister of Interior, according to ESAGG has abandoned major tasks for Passport,Visa and E-Gate in Immigration Service due to contracts therein all in.the name of national interest.
The ESAGG) noted that it is the result of the abandonment by the Minister of his other assignments in.other agencies under his watch is what Nigerians withnessing today.
“You cannot be in the Ministry of Interior and face only one agency, something must be wrong. Today,the Minister of Interior cannot brief Nigerians on the whereabout of other escapees. Now another jailbreak has happened,yet he believes in using media hype to portray passport as if he was appointed to Immigration Service alone .
“Mr President,it is the height of security challenge for jails to be breaking incessantly and the Minister of Interior is comfortable making press statements. Nigerians want action review and full scale report on all the past and present jail breaks for accountability and good governance, this we believe is the hallmark of the Renewed Hope Agenda to bring hope and succour to Nigerians amidst peace and security for all the citizens no matter where they resides.
The Minister of Interior has to give Nigerians reason why he should remain in Office.This is our patriotic contribution,to see something and say something, to correct the wrong and make progress for the good of all,” ESAGG said.
