A Public Policy Analyst, Democracy Advocate and President Donald Trump Enthusiast, Magnus Onyibe has advised African countries to position themselves to take advantage of what China is losing due to the 2.0 economic policy introduced by Trump.
He pointed out that Trump with the 2.0 policy wants to
exert dominance over China, one of the US’s largest global rivals.
The Development Strategist gave the advice while speaking at an interactive forum with the title, “Trump 2.0 & Africa : Dangers and Perspectives’ at Commonwealth Institute Advance Professional Studies (CIAPS)in Lagos, yesterday .
He, however lamented that for Africa as a continent to benefit from the policy , it must have reliable and constant energy but that unfortunately Africa is bedevilled by lack of energy.
Onyibe argued that what the United States under the leadership of President Trump is doing is to take away the power of production from China and take it to Africa but that it will take Africa decades to make huge success in the area of production as the continent’s energy is a major set back.
He further argued that what Trump is bringing in is the new world order that would mean a paradigm shift and a departure from the way things were done in the past.
Onyibe informed that before China became a success story, it was faced with the same situation that Nigeria is presently in, adding that today China is a major producer of energy and also the fastest growing economy in the world.
On the insinuation that Trump hates blacks, Onyibe said that contrary to what people think, Trump is only angry with indolent people.
He pointed out that the people Trump is sending back to their respective countries are criminals but that he supports intelligent and hard working people .
On whether it is proper for the Trump led administration to collect oil from Ukraine to prosecute the war with Russia, Onyibe said that the practice did not start with the Trump administration, as according to him it was done when America defended Kuwait from been annexed by the late President of Iraq, Sadam Hussein during the Gulf War.
He said that Kuwait’s territory was defended by America in exchange for oil, adding that it is better to reach a deal with a country that wants to help you defend you territory eg at 70 per cent for the owner and 30 per cent for the country that is helping to defend your territory.
To buttress his point, he gave example of what France was doing to Mali ,Burkina Faso and other Francophone countries in the West Africa sub region before the countries rebelled against France.
The Public Policy Analyst said that in the above situation, France had been carting away the mineral resources belonging to these countries and give them whatever it feels like giving them.
He said that in the case above France determines how much to be given to Mali, Burkina Faso and others, while the deal between US and Ukraine was negotiated on a round table.
“It is better to have something than not to have anything at all,” he said.
What happened between Ukraine and the United States, he noted is the new world order that Trump is talking about; ensuring that the old order of “Father Christmas”, which America was practicing is jettisoned.
