The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau(NSIB )Capt, Alex Badeh Jnr, has stated that collaboration with other modes of transport would help to identify gaps, share best practices, and build resilient safety mechanisms in accordance with international standards.

He said this at the virtual Multimodal Transportation Stakeholders’ workshop. organised by the Bureau,,titled “Strengthening Transport Safety Standards Through Collaboration,” today.

He pointed out that the primary objective of this August gathering is to foster open dialogue, exchange insights, and collectively refine the frameworks that safeguard lives and infrastructure in aviation, mar time, and railway sectors.

Badeh said that in an era where transportation systems are increasingly interconnected, collaboration is not just beneficial, but also essential.

According to him, “By working together, we can identify gaps, share best practices, and build resilient safety mechanisms that align with international standards while addressing our unique national challenges.”
He said that the gathering’s discussion
at the workshop will deliberate onthree key regulatory drafts that form the cornerstone of our efforts.

He mentioned the Railway (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Regulations Draft, which according to him is aimed at establishing robust procedures for probing railway mishaps, ensuring thorough analysis and preventive recommendations to enhance rail safety nationwide.

The workshop is also to dissect the Maritime Safety Investigation Regulations Draft, designed to streamline investigations into maritime accidents and incidents, promoting transparency, accountability, and improved safety protocols in the vital waterways and ports.

Thirdly, Badeh said that workshop will discuss
a comprehensive review of the Revised Civil Aviation (Investigation of Air Accidents and Incidents) Regulations Draft, which builds on existing frameworks to incorporate emerging technologies, global lessons learned, and stakeholder feedback for even stronger aviation safety oversight.

These drafts, the NSIB boss said represent months of dedicated work by the Bureau”s teams, informed by data, expert consultations, and real-world experiences.

He said that the presence of stakeholders and experts here
today underscores a shared commitment to advancing safety across Nigeria’s multimodal transportation landscape, adding that NSIB is truly honoured by their participation.

“Today, we invite your valuable input to refine them further, ensuring they are practical, enforceable, and effective in preventing future incidents.
I am confident that the discussions ahead will yield actionable outcomes, strengthening our collective resolve to prioritise safety. Let us embrace this opportunity to collaborate, innovate, and .elevate standards for the benefit of all Nigerians.
