… Urges CGI To Continue With Planned Sensitisation Workshop Fixed For August 21, 2025
The National Association of Retired Immigration Officers (NARIO) has refuted report published in an online medium alleging that retired officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Kicked against the absence of the Interior Minister and the Comptroller- General of Immigration(CGI) at a stakeholders meeting held at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja, August 14, 2025.
The refutal is contained in a statement signed by the President of NARIO, Assistant Comptroller General (ACG), Ezekiel Kaura (rtd) and made available to Ontimenewsng.com today.
Kaura categorically stated in the statement that at no time did NARIO either authored nor authorised this publication, nor did any of its Chapters or members act on its behalf.
The article, the President of NARIO, said contained false and disparaging statements seemingly intended to undermine the Honourable Minister of Interior and the Comptroller-General of Immigration(CGI)
He pointed out that for clarity, the Stakeholders’ Sensitisation Workshop organised by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at NIS Headquarters, Sauka, Abuja, was a routine engagement between the Service and its retired officers.
Kaura further clarified that its purpose was to exchange institutional knowledge and strengthen the Service.
The recent workshop, he noted specifically focused on sensitising participants to the 2025 New Visa Policy (NVP), adding that discussions were robust, objective, and constructive, drawing on lessons from previous reforms in 2020 and 2022.
NARIO, the President said, believes the 2025 NVP is both timely and aligned with global best practices, stressing that once operationalised, it is expected to enhance accessibility, timeliness, and security, while boosting the national economy and attracting Direct Foreign Investment (DFI).
According to him, “These were the issues that dominated the forum not any form of malice or disrespect to individuals, as misrepresented in the said publication.
NARIO urged the Comptroller-General to continue with the planned sensitisation workshop in Lagos on Thursday, August 21, 2025, where its members are already mobilised to participate.
‘As a lawful corporate body, NARIO reaffirms its commitment to the continuous growth of the NIS and its vital role in migration management, governance, and Nigeria’s overall security architecture, the association’ President said.
Recall that an online platform had published a story on August 16, 2025, titled, “NIS Retirees Kick Over Absence of Interior Minister, CGI at Stakeholders’ Meeting” and also alleging that the retired officers demanded for the CGI’s sack for ineffective service delivery, a comment NARIO has denied.
