…Says No Room For Speculation As Investigation Ongoing
The Director General of the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau(NSIB), Capt Alex Badeh Jnr has said that the preliminary report of the derailment of train at Asham Station, Abuja will be released in 30 days.
Badeh Jnr. made this known today at a Media briefing in Abuja monitored by our correspondent virtually in Lagos on the update latest of the incident
According to the NSIB boss, the preliminary report of the incident will be released within 30 days from when the serious incident occured , adding that the report will made public and stakeholders within this time frame.
On the essence of the investigation, the NSIB Director General, said that the essence is to know the cause of the incident, learn lessons from it and to also prevent future occurrence.
He also added that one of the essence of the investigation is to keep Nigerians abreast of what happened.
Badeh Jnr. said that funding is needed for training personnel and that equipment is also very important,adding that without adequate funding purchasing of equipment and training cannot be achieved.
“Yes, we do require more funding.”he said
On the cause of the incident, Badeh said the job of NSIB is to investigate and to get to the cause of the derailment and not to preempt the outcome of investigation as it is still ongoing.
He said by this investigation, NSIB is trying to get to know the cause and ensure it does not happen in future.
Fielding question on whether the serious incident was sabotage, Badeh Jnr said, “It is too early for us to start talking about the cause when investigation is ongoing. Whenever we have more information, we will make it available.”
Speaking on the level of relationship between NSIB and Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), the NSIB boss said that the relationship has been cordial, adding that NRC is fully cooperating with NSIB.
He noted that by law establishing NSIB, it is saddled with the responsibility of investigation incident and accident while that of NRC is to operate and regulate the rail system in the country.
Concluding the briefing, Badeh Jnr. appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience as there is no need speculating the cause of the incident when investigation on the occurrence is ongoing
