Applicants Can Secure Document In One Week

System Has Capacity To Produce 4,500 To 5,000 Passports Daily

As part of efforts to ensure seamless passport production and timely delivery to Nigerians , the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has stated the newly completed Data Personalisation Centre at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Headquarters, Abuja, is a ‘game-changer’ in the country’s passport production drive.

Speaking yesterday during the inspection of the facility, Tunji- Ojo, explained that the centre will reduce response time as passports could be printed within 24 hours and delivered within a week

The newly completed Centre, he further explained is in accordance in with global standards, adding that it would improve uniformity and enhance the overall integrity of Nigerian travel documents worldwide.

The Interior Minister, who delighted about the facility, pointed out that the centre is a step toward bringing NIS services closer to Nigerians while driving a culture of efficiency and total passport system reform,.

The building of the centralised production system is in line with President Bola Tinubu left administration renew Hope agenda to boost NIS capacity and seamless service delivery.

The new centralised system, Tunji- Ojo, posted has officially ended the NIS use of multiple centres for the production of Nigerian passport for the first time for 62 years.

Speaking further, the Minister disclosed that the old machines can only produce 250 to 300 passports daily, but the new system had a capacity of 4,500 to 5,000 passports every day.

He said that NIS promised two-week delivery of passports but that it is now pushing for one week. automation and optimisation to keep the promise to Nigerians.

Going back memory laned, Tunji- Ojo l, said that since the creation of the Service in 1963,Nigeria has never operated a central passport production system,adding that the just completed facility is the first in Nigeria history .

He described it as a milestone for NIS in particular and Nigeria in general.

According to him, “The project is 100 per cent ready. Nigeria can now be more productive and efficient in delivering passport services.”

The new centre, he said would boost NIS efforts at meeting Nigerians demand for passports.
