The Women in Aviation International (WAI), Nigeria Chapter has awarded female journalists with the ‘Aviation Media Awards’.
The honour is part of efforts to recognise and reward the contributions of journalists as key stakeholders in the growth and development of Nigeria’s aviation industry,
The female journalists received the awards at the glamourous 2025 Annual Conference of the WAI held in the largest city in West Africa, Ibadan, Oyo state capital on Friday.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, the President of the WAI , Nigeria Chapter, Dr Rejoice Ndudinachi commended the media for their reportage in promoting aviation and spotlighting Nigeria’s aviation in the global space.
Ndudinachi noted that excellence in reporting aviation was a key driver in some of the achievements recorded in the industry.
One of the recipients, Mrs Nosa Aituamen of Radio Nigeria, said that it was rare for journalists, especially female journalists, to be recognised for hard work and contributions to industry growth.
Aituamen thanked the WAI, Nigeria for acknowledging female media practitioners, adding that it will encourage female journalists to do more.
Another journalist who received the award, Publisher of JustNews Online,Mrs. Pearl Ngwama, noted that in a dynamic sector like aviation, female journalists had been exceptional in their reportage, driving industry change and positively drawing global attention to Nigeria’s aviation sector.
Also, speaking, the Publisher of FactsEcho Online, Mrs. Olapeju Olubi, said that the award was an testament that the efforts of female aviation journalists had been seen and acknowledged.
On her part, Mrs Kemi Awe, of Autoglobe Media Services, expressed her optimism that the award would push female journalists to do more in reporting aviation.
Mrs Itohan Abara-Laserian of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), also a recipient, said that organisations and individuals who see the media as agents of change know that the media is not an enemy but those who do not know what to do with the media.
The Chief Executive Officer, of MamaJ TV, Mrs Joy Ogbebor, said that such awards of recognition encouraged journalists to perform more diligently.
Other female journalists who received awards included, Mrs Henrietta Oke, Swift News; Mrs Chinelo Obogo of the Sun Newspapers, Mrs Sade Williams of Travelport Online; Mrs Ifeoma Okeke-Korieocha, BusinessDay, among others.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN, Director-general of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo; the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the University Teaching Hospital, the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan among others were also awarded for excellence in different categories.
The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja who was represented at the event was there to show support to the group.
Other side attractions at the event include : exhibitions, cultural displays and state chapter parades.
