The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service(NIS)Mrs. Kemi Nandap, has decorated 46 newly elevated Comptrollers.

This is just as she urged them to rise to the enormous responsibilities that accompany senior leadership within a disciplined security institution.

Speaking at the decoration ceremony, in Abuja, the CG said that the event underscored the NIS determination to strengthen professionalism, accountability, and vigilance at a time of evolving national security challenges, with the elevation of the Comptrollers positioned as both recognition and renewed obligation.

Nandap reminded the newly decorated Comptrollers that advancement within the Service is neither automatic nor a function of longevity alone.

She pointed out that promotion is earned through sustained dedication, demonstrable professional competence, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to duty.

The promotion of Comptrollers, she said reflects confidence in their judgment, experience, and capacity to uphold institutional values while leading officers under increasingly complex operational conditions.

The decoration, the CG said symbolises the trust reposed in the newly promoted Comptrollers and signalled clear expectations of enhanced leadership, sound decision-making, and exemplary conduct, adding that at the senior levels authority must be exercised with clarity of vision, purpose, decisiveness, empathy, and the ability to mentor and inspire subordinates.

Nandap noted that the actions of Comptrollers inevitably shape the culture, reputation, and public perception of the Service.

Nandap Commended President Bola Tinubu for his visionary leadership and steadfast commitment to institutional reforms and national security.

She disclosed that the current transformation within the NIS is driven by the administration’s resolve to reposition security agencies for effectiveness, resilience, and public trust.

She also acknowledged the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for providing strategic direction, diligent oversight, and resolute dedication to strengthening operational capacities across the NIS

For the families, colleagues and dignitaries at the event, Nandap said that their presence today reflects the collective support that sustains officers of the NIS, acknowledging that the sacrifices made by families, often unseen, play a vital role in the professional journeys of immigration personnel.

She said that heir patience, encouragement, and understanding have been instrumental in enabling officers to serve with focus and commitment.

On the current security situation in the country, Nandap told the Comptrollers that Nigeria faces multifaceted threats requiring vigilance, adaptability, and ethical leadership, warning that indolence and unprofessional conduct would not be tolerated.

NIS, she noted must remain innovative, responsive, and firmly aligned with national interest,advising them to always by example, and make discipline and professionalism priority.

In his remarks, the Deputy Comptroller General in charge of Human Resources Management, Afolayan Ayeni, said that the Minister of Interior had prioritised timely promotions upon assumption of office, noting that the decoration of the Comptrollers today, reflects deliberate attempt at motivating personnel of the NIS, reward merit, and strengthen morale within the Service.

The NIS disclosed that one of the officers promoted from Deputy Comptroller of Immigration to Comptroller of Immigration died before the release of the results of the promotion while seven others had already retired.
