The Church has tremendous and undeniable power in emplacing good governance but little understood by both the leaders and followers alike. This has robbed the church of its rightful space and place in emplacing good governance through the election of credible,God fearing,competent,genuine and compassionate leaders.
Before every election year, especially when the campaign season swings and the politicians, both christians and non christian began to visit churches to seek recognition,relevance and support. That is the right time to tell them the truth, as stated in the Gospel. Not that the church is apolitical ground for campaign, but it is where the politicians of all Believe and shades return to seek election or re- election. But little did the church know what to do when they come visiting.
Wether they are full time members or passers- by,their mere recognition of the church as a platform, makes it mandatory for the church to wake up from slumber and say the truth to power or the power to be,on morals of politics,the sin of failed promises,danger of appearing as a sheep in church and fox outside,dragging the name of the church in the mud,forgetting what is said on the altar when they visit,the power of the tongue with respect to what they say or promised
Any person that needs your vote,must have your ear,they must be reachable,not hit and run until another election year,l
No, the church must be as relevant all through the season not only during campaign before election,it must be before, during and after to be able to play her rightful role in advisory, warning of impending dangers, cautioning erring and derailing leaders, advocating and counselling for the purpose of good governance,not just a political platform for campaigning.
Until the church recognises among others, its ability and power to reshape political thinking and behaviour of the politicians, it will continue to only give in to the antics of the politicians gullibility and gimmick in taking so much from the Church platform and not giving back to her and the entire society.
Let’s drive home a point. As a Christian politician, recognising with the body of Christ only during campaign and election is a selfish move and intention.It is an unfair deal,it is deceitful,it is robbing the body of Christ of its rightful place,it is anti- Christ and must be frown at and avoided.
It is very critical and important for the church to make it crystal clear, that as much as you will want the votes and endorsement of the church, you must be reachable,teachable, corrected and advisable, whenever and at whatever time it is perceived there is deviation,failed promise or departure from the truth,based on the statements and campaign promises of the politician. Any politician that cannot be reached or advised or cautioned, shouldn’t secure the support of the church in the first instance.
It is a win – win affair,not as in a bargain, but where the church stand, your promise on the altar must be fulfilled. Your promise, wether on the side line of the altar, as far as the church ground or name is used,the Church has a duty to keep its integrity,sanctity and reverred position, not to be messed up or dragged in the mud. Any politician that will not heed right counsel does not also worth the support of the church.
The church is not a political ground or platform,but a significant part of shaping good governance through elected politicians, especially those of the house hold of God and visitors alike that chooses to receive the church blessing and endorsement through associating with the church before,during and after election, to deliver on their promises of good governance to the people.
We must continue to preach Christ at all cost.
