The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has arrested and detained a female police officer who served as the aide-de-camp for former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello as well as other security details for facilitating the embattled governor’s escape from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.
A source close to the EFCC said that the ADC was arrested, along with other police officers assigned to 48-year-old Bello, and that they are presently detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Their arrests followed an order issued on Thursday night by the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun requiring their immediate withdrawal from the former governor.
They were said have been arrested on suspicion that facilitated and assisted the Ex-governor to escape from EFCC operatives who had laid siege on Wednesday to arrest him at his resident in Abuja following failure to honour the anti- graft agency’s invitation
According to the EFCC source, the Ex- governor’s aides were arrested on the orders of the Inspector General of Police because they were suspected to have facilitated and assisted the ex-governor to escape EFCC’s arrest on Wednesday.
Recall that on Wednesday, EFCC operatives barricaded Bello’s Abuja residence.
However, Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, intervened to prevent the arrest of the former governor of the state by anti- graft body.
Ododo’s team had escorted Bello out of his residence in the current governor’s car.
Similarly, the fleeing Ex-governor was also nor in court to respond to the charges on alleged financial crime to the tune of N80.2 billion on Thursday when he was arraigned by EFCC.
Bello’s arraignment followed a warrant of arrest and enrolment order granted to the EFCC by the court on Wednesday.
