
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has hit hard on Valuejet by suspending the licences of its pilots, Capt. Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba, over serious safety breach at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport,(NAIA), Abuja.
The suspension of the licences is contained in a statement signed by Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, NCAA, Michael Achimugu.
Achmugu in the statement explained that the two pilots were involved in a serious breach of aviation safety regulations on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
Preliminary findings, he further explained suggest that the ValueJet pilots initiated departure procedures without mandatory clearance from ground control.
These ValueJet pilots safety breach, Achmugu said endangered the lives of ground personnel and other airport users, in direct violation of civil aviation rules and internationally accepted operational safety standards.
The NCAA, he noted has emphasised its zero-tolerance position on safety violations, adding that the suspension of the pilot and co-pilot licences was carried out immediately, pending the outcome of a full-scale investigation.
The incident, he said occurred at the domestic terminal of the Abuja airport and was promptly reported.
The NCAA, he informed views this incident with utmost seriousness and as a result NCAA has taken immediate enforcement action by suspending the licences of the Valuejet pilots with immediate effect
The regulatory body stated that the suspension will remain in place pending the conclusion of a full investigation into the incident.
