Air Peace Nigeria Limited has stated categorically that neither the Onyemas nor Air Peace has been served with any court summons or official notification on the alleged tax suit by the Lagos State Government.
The airline’s reaction followed a publication alleging that its Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Allen Onyema, and Vice Chairman, Mrs. Alice Onyema, are the subject of a tax suit by the Lagos State Government.
Reacting, the management of the airline stated unequivocally that neither the Onyemas nor Air Peace has been served with any court summons or official notification regarding the purported suit.
The statement further said that the claim that legal proceedings have been ongoing since February, without service or formal communication is quite surprising and shocking to the airline and the Onyemas.
“We maintain that all personal and corporate tax obligations have been duly met and remain up to date, in full compliance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements. However, if there is any discrepancy in the computation of taxes, the Onyemas and Air Peace remain open to engaging the Lagos State Government to review and reconcile shortfalls if any in the interest of transparency, clarity, and due process,” the statement said.
The carrier noted that over the years, the Onyemas and Air Peace have remained committed to the advancement of Nigeria’s aviation sector, consistently demonstrating integrity, resilience, and patriotism, adding that these values remain unchanged.
“We remain committed to the highest standards of professionalism and will not be distracted from serving the flying public,” the statement added.
