The Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC), has confirmed that the undersea cable cut which disrupted banking , telecom and other internet services in Nigeria and some parts of Africa has been about 100 per cent restored.
According to the Director Public Affairs, NCC, Mr. Reuben Muoka, services have been restored to approximately 90 per cent of peak utilisation capacities, contrary to initial expectations that it will take two weeks or more to be restored.
As result of the restoration efforts Telecommunication organisations in the country who were mostly at the receiving end of the disruption also re-echoed the NCC’s image makers confirmation that the services were over 90 per cent restored.
It was also learnt the engineers battling the repairs worked beyond schedules to ensure the disruption did not last more than necessary.
Vanguard Newspaper, reports that the Chairman of the umbrella body of Nigerian telcos, Association of Licensed Telecom Operators in Nigeria(ALTON) Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, said that whatever little disruptions experienced in the services of his members could only be as a result of a backlog of congestion, occasioned by the cut.
“As we speak, service is almost restored. When the problem happened almost every operator re-routed to alternative platforms and the effect of the congestion is what subscribers could be experiencing now. We have invested heavily on service restoration and I can boast that we are almost out of the challenge in terms of service restoration,” he asserted.
