…Commend Agency For The Roadshow Initiative
Two Nollywood stars, Chioma Omeruah and Maureen Solomon Okeke have commended the Directorate of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for initiating a programme to enlighten air passengers on their rights and responsibilities in the event of any breach by both local and international airlines.
Speaking with journalists at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Two(MMA2), during a Roadshow organized by the Consumer Protection Department (CPD), the Nollywood Stars, said that it was thoughtful of the regulatory agency to have come out with this initiative to educate air passengers what they are supposed to do in the event that their flights are either delayed or cancelled without any explanations from the airline concerned .
Speaking, Chioma stated that the lack of adequate information has been one of the reasons why some air passengers have problems in the course of their travel.
She pointed out that with the sensitisation embarked upon by NCAA, the air passengers would have a better travelling experience.
According to her, “One of the reasons we have problems is because we don’t have enough information. The NCAA is trying to let us know that we do have rights and responsibilities as air passengers. This is a case of learning of good behavior and unlearning of bad behavior on the part of the consumers and airlines. What the NCAA is doing right now is amazing because as a passenger I have experienced a lot of flight disruptions and I never knew where to go. I didn’t know I could approach the NCAA because I wasn’t aware.”
Maureen, on her part said that before now, she never knew about the existence of NCAA and all the efforts the agency has been making to ensure air passengers know their rights before now.
According to her, “First of all, until recently, I didn’t know about the NCAA and that all this information exists. It is a simple thing but with their uniform, you know where to go and demand for our rights when things go wrong like missing baggage.”
“Most Nigerians do not demand for our rights a lot of times. It is not our fault because for some time, we have been in the situation where you feel nobody is going to fight for you. With this NCAA initiative, it will no longer be business as usual,” she said.
She promised that as a Nollywood actress, they will use their influence to assist the NCAA in enlightening passengers and create awareness and for them to know their rights.
She appealed to the NCAA to ensure that it implements all passengers’ rights as provided for in the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (NCARs).
