….Brings Total Number of Incidents This Year To Five

United Nigeria Airlines said that bird strike has again hit its CRJ-900 with Flight number UN0579 during landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport (NAA)Abuja, yesterday, Tuesday, April 14,2026.

According to a statement signed by the Public Relations Office of the airline, the flight took off from Mallam Aminu Kano Airport(MAKA), Kano.

The statement explained that in line with its strict and uncompromising safety standards, the aircraft has been immediately withdrawn from operations to undergo comprehensive technical inspections and any required maintenance before being returned to service.

It added that consequently, some flights across its network may not operate as scheduled but that safety remains its highest priority.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this unforeseen development may cause to our passengers’ travel plans,” the statement said.

This latest incident, the statement, further explained brings the number of bird strikes involving its aircraft since January 2026. To five.

Each occurrence, UNA pointed out has been managed in full compliance with applicable aviation safety regulations and established operational procedures.

“We appreciate the understanding of our valued passengers and reaffirm our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational reliability. We will continue to take all necessary measures to optimise our operations and exceed the expectations of our passengers,” the statement said.
