Information Communication Technology(ICT) Consultant, Okoi Ubi has advised students to take advantage of the numerous opportunities created by Artificial Intelligence(AI) for their own benefit and to create wealth for themselves.

Ubi gave the advice at the third edition of the Youth Capacity Building and Empowerment Programme with the theme, “Digital Skills, Artificial Intelligence, Online Safety, Insurance and Financial Literacy for Nigerian Youth” organised by the Finance and Business Online Publishers (FIBOP)in Lagos, yesterday.

Ubi urged students not only to embrace AI but to also key into the usage as according to him, it has come to stay.

The consultant pointed out that there is no sector of the economy where AI is not used, adding any field of human study that fails to key into AI will be left behind .

AI, Ubi told the students are used by all the professionals in the world to advance their professions.

He listed some of the professions to include : journalism, law, doctors architects and accountants.

The Consultant urged the students to take advantage of the opportunities AI has created to enhance their studies, develop chosen careers and create employment for themselves.

He pointed out that if they embrace AI and its opportunities now that they are still very young, they will end up being employers of labour even before they complete their secondary school education .

To buttress his point, he
cited the case of young boy he tutored that developed an app, which according to him will be unveiled very soon

He added that the young boy’s case is a testimony that anyone can use AI.

He, however urged students to at all point verify information provided by AI as some of them may be wrong and to also avoid copy and paste syndrome.

According to him, “Don’t copy and paste information given to you by AI. Always endeavour to verify and use the information depending on what you want .”

The IT expert, however warned the students not to use AI in the negative way;by deploying it to commit crime or scam people, as the law guiding it will catch up with them.

Students, he said must have the passion for AI for them to catch-up quickly, stressing that there are areas in AI which have not harnessed .

Earlier, the President of the FiBOP, Charles Onwuatogwu, in his opening speech, welcomed the students and participants for attending the event.

The FiBOP boss stressed the importance of sound education for the future generation, which according to him is very crucial to the development of
young people.

Onwuatogwu, who argued that relevant skills is key to national growth and personal development,urged the students to ensure they the take skill acquisition and digital literacy seriously.

During the question and answer session, the students, who were eager to learn asked pertinent questions on AI, the usage, the opportunities created, the different field where it can be applied, the disadvantages among other interesting questions.

Ubi, who was ready for these questions, answered them to the delight of the anxious students,who in the course of the event demonstrated readiness to take advantage of the programme .

At the End of the capacity building programme, three students won for themselves cash prizes for their brilliant questions and for exhibit willingness to learn.

The FiBOP youth capacity building programme is part of efforts by the association to create
digital skills, AI awareness, online safety, insurance knowledge, financial literacy and part of its Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR).
